Welcome to the BrightSky Studio

We've just finished setting up a small studio in our office, and thought we'd show it off.

The studio can be used for basic photography, video shooting and audio recording. As well as a black, and a white backdrop, we’ve installed a greenscreen for those Hollywood style chromakeying effects. We’ve bought a fantastic Zoom R16 8-track live audio recorder which is amazing for podcasting, and goes great with either our four Sennheiser lapel radio mics, or our four AKG C1000 dynamic mics. We’ve installed three 1000w continuous studio lights which can be fitted with a soft-box for softer lighting, and our Canon 7D works great with that setup for either photography, basic video production, or chromakeying.

We’ve got a few interesting projects lined up in the studio for the coming weeks, so keep an eye on the blog to see how we get on.

Basic Camera Controls

In this post, we're going to look at the three camera controls that have the greatest effect on the quality of the photographs you take: ISO, aperture, and shutter speed.

The three of these variables are closely linked. Most beginners fail to realise that while each of these controls affects the brightness of the image, each control also affects another variable. Increasing ISO introduces noise. Increasing aperture causes the background and foreground to go out of focus, and increasing shutter speed causes motion blur when your subject moves.

I Like Drisco – a charity single to help the people of Haiti

Brightsky got involved with our friends GigEvent to help raise money for the people of haiti. All proceeds from a newly released single entitled "I like Drisco" will go to Haven's earthquake appeal, and to their volunteer building programme.

Following the recent disaster in HaitiJohnny Rayge & ITO joined forces with promoters GigEvent to do their bit to raise money for those affected by the earthquake. The song I Like Disco, is a homage to a great Irish sporting hero and international rugby captain Brian O’Driscoll.

Coinciding with the RBS Six Nations Championship the single is available for download through http://www.ilikedrisco.com

All profits will be donated to Haven’s earthquake appeal, and to their volunteer building programme.

Fun Friday – Comic: That Constant Reminder.

I created this comic as it was my turn for fun Friday here at BrightSky.

That Constant Reminder

Sometimes this happens to me. If I’m tired, under the weather, or just coming back from my lunch break, I have managed to completely forget what I was working on.

It’s like having the memory of a very small goldfish…with Alzheimer’s.

I’ve pressed ctrl+v, or cmd+v, on plenty of occasions just to remember what I was doing.

I really, really, hope I’m not the only one.

Don’t Neglect the To-Do List

Don't worry if your to-do list starts to look like an excerpt from a Dickens novel. If your to-do list is empty that's when you need to start worrying.
