Howdie! Url Shortening With A Little Twist
Christmas! Finally some time for a couple of pet projects. We’ve been wanting our own url shortener for some time and being home in the quiet provinces gave me the opportunity to finally put one together. I didn’t just want to just make another bog standard shortener though so our one lets you tag the link to be shortened. It then hides the tag into the shortened code. For example, if you shorten: “http://www.abbandunne.com” with the tag “awesomeabban” you get the following: http://howd.ie/d9AWES0M3Abban3855 (Yes, I know thats longer than the original but I used a really short link for the purpose of the example!)
The way it blends the message is that it randomly swaps some of the letters with numbers and randomly makes some of the letters uppercase and lowercase. If that link has been shortened before it also shows you a cloud of the tags that other people have given it.
Anyway, I hope you like it and if you find any bugs please leave a comment below so I can iron them out.
Happy Christmas,
Abban.
